Camp Layman is stepping into a new era by looking backward. After over a century as a community retreat, the camp has unveiled a new logo designed to capture the "golden age" of American recreation.

By diving into archives of newspapers and vintage photography, the design moved away from modern trends to embrace a specific, nostalgic aesthetic: the classic American baseball pennant.

The Inspiration: The Baseball Pennant

The centerpiece of the new look is a modified, script typeface combined with a sans serif font in support. TIt was designed to mimic the felt appliqué lettering stitched onto sports banners from the 1930s and 40s.

This "pennant style" was chosen for several reasons:

  • Hand-Crafted Quality: The slightly condensed, robust lettering evokes the optimism and craftsmanship of mid-century summer camps.

  • A Visual Bridge: It connects the camp's rustic logging roots with its long-standing tradition of friendly competition and summer memories.

  • Authenticity: In an age of digital minimalism, the logo leans into "sturdy sophistication," signaling to visitors that Camp Layman is a place of depth and character.

Bringing the Legacy to Life

Moving forward, this logo will serve as the primary visual anchor for all Camp Layman communications. Guests will see the pennant integrated across the newly redesigned website and throughout printed brochures that pair the mark with archival photography. Most notably, the logo will guide a transformation of the property’s physical signage, ensuring that from the moment visitors arrive, the visual environment reflects the camp’s storied past and enduring spirit.
